The Department of Kansas has numerous projects in the works by both its Camps and by Individuals within the Department.

Monuments

One of the major Statewide projects includes recording the location and condition of the many Monuments around the State of Kansas that were built to honor the Civil War Soldier's, Sailor's & Marines.  Click here for more information on our Monuments Registration and Restoration Project.

Markers

Another is the locating, recording, marking and cleaning the markers of Veteran's Gravesites.  Naturally our main focus is on the gravesites of Civil War Soldiers, Sailors and Marines, but we also honor all who served our country by working in conjunction with other organizations to locate the final resting places of all Veterans in Kansas.

The Gravesite Registration Database will be posted on this site soon.  Click here for more information on our Gravesite Registration Project and on how you can help us honor the men and women who served our country.

We also spend many volunteer hours placing, replacing or cleaning the grave markers of our Veterans.  Click here to see how we do it and how you too can help us preserve them for future generations.

Records and Artifacts

Locating, categorizing and recording information is very important to us.

We are presently attempting to locate and help preserve all of the records and artifacts of the Grand Army of the Republic and its various Posts in Kansas.

At one time in its history the Department of Kansas had some 500+ Posts of the G.A.R. and over 20,000 members.
