The official newsletter of the Department of Kansas, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is "The Sunflower Picket". The name comes from the history of the SUVCW in Kansas. From the time when the original Department of Kansas was formed (in 1883) until their disbandment in the early 1960's there were several newsletters serving the membership. Originally known as "Sunflower Magazine", the publication was forced to change it's name due to a conflict with another magazine of the same name. The next name for the publication was "The Picket" and it eventually was re-named "The Sunflower Picket", and remained in publication until the Department eventually disbanded in the early 1960's. We have chosen to keep the same name for our publication which we began to produce on, at the time, a very limited publication schedule. After a 2 year hiatus, we are now back on track to produce several volumes of "The Sunflower Picket" yearly for our membership starting with the Mid-Summer Issue of Volume 2000-2001. Featured stories from our newsletter are now online. To view the current issue of "The Sunflower Picket" just click the link below.
